Quilt Finish – Prism
If you thought my last quilt finish, Twisted Butlers, was suggesting that I’d gone all Earth-goddess, neutrals and heavy cream, well think again! I’m back today to show you that I’ve still got most of my toes well-dipped in a lake of saturated colours. You know rainbows, ombré, and sparkles are some of my favourite things! Well this quilt finish, quite literally has combined all three. Oh stop it! I can’t even talk about how much I love it.
Well maybe I can talk a little bit about it! I finished this quilt top in November, 2021 after buying a V and Co ombré, fairy dust, jelly roll. Click here if you’d like to read a more detailed history and process of making this quilt top. Suffice it to say, I was in heaven working with these fabrics and it all came together really quickly. Don’t you wish all quilts were like that!?
While I was spending last summer gallivanting around the Mediterranean, I left a heap of finished quilt tops with Mount Vincent Quilts. I picked out this tubular, psychedelic motif for the longarm quilting as it felt like something from Fantasia or Alice In Wonderland. Can’t you just see the Cheshire Cat disappearing into the back of this quilt? Speaking of, the backing is a combination of two wovens from Giucy Giuce’s Entwine collection: Persimmon Static and Teal Intersect.
I love the balance of these two fabrics playing with each other on the back. So as not to interrupt the colour-blocking on the back of the quilt, I used a pieced binding in the same fabrics. The woven fabrics obviously have a looser weave, so I’m interested to see how this quilt holds up in the wild. This will probably end up being the hardest thing about this quilt: deciding who gets it! Until then I’ll probably just put it on my own couch so I can start everyday with a prism of colour.
