I’ve been quilting for eight years, approaching my 100th *finished* quilting project.
I’m actually a gay man, masquerading as a bejewelled, bedazzled, and believable quilting drag queen.
My Grandma D was a painter, and taught me to be an artist.
Of course I believe that all lives matter, but right now I’m not a tone deaf asshole, and shout proudly that #BlackLivesMatter.
I curse a lot. No, a fucking lot.
I have a regular column in Australian print magazine, Textile Fibre Forum, called All That Sparkles.
I own two signed Salvador Dalis. My babies.
My favourite musicians are female and usually recognised by a single name: Madonna, Kylie, Cher, Mariah, Whitney, Dua, Celine, Gaga, Alanis, Taylor … (a few exceptions: Kelly Clarkson, Carly Rae Jepsen, Tori Amos)
I rarely buy more than a half yard of any fabric unless it is on sale and it has quilt back potential.
I own at least four pairs of pants that sparkle.
For a day job, I am the national facilities manager for Apple Australia.
I was raised by my grandparents, and my Grandma Sparkles is now living in Australia due to being stuck here from the COVID19 travel restrictions.
If it’s a carb, I’m there for it.
I sort my fabrics onto comic book boards, then in rainbow order. There are some I exclude into designer collections, namely: Alison Glass, Carolyn Friedlander, Parson Grey, Tula Pink
Sitting on my mantle are prints by Escher, a penis shaped bottle opener, a glitter picture frame, and a license plate from Oklahoma. This could be my auto-biography.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Fine Arts in photography from the University of Sydney.
My name Molli Sparkles was always intended to be a double entendre.
I’ll drink a cocktail dry, dirty and any which way to sideways.
My real boy name is Joshua Eldon Dean Sutterfield Helms. Wait, how do I spell Elden? Eldan? Elden? Eldon? Fuck. How do I spell my name again?
As shown above, I’m on an Alison Glass fabric kick that is probably going to last a while.
Good to hear from you again. Sorry to hear your Grams spent her indoor time away from her stash. I hope you shared. Hope to hear more from you moving forward. Love your take on the world. It is refreshing and honest And often provides me with something to ponder outside of my sphere of experience. Thank you Mollie. I have missed you.
Molli. Soooo glad to hear from you. Alison Glass fabrics are some of my favourites and I have a stash. Glad Grandma Sparkles is with you – safer and better response to Covid in Australia. My middle name is Frances. My grandfather lobbied my mother to give me Horatia as a middle name after Horatio Nelson. She balked so instead I was named after him. I ended up with initials NFL instead of NHL. Names are funny things and Molli Sparkles suits you
I so love you and all you do and stand for
💖
So nice to get to know you better!
Love you Molli. Thanks for the bio ❣️
Hope you’re having a grand weekend! Looking forward to all the Alison fun!
