Sunday Stash #253 – Drinks on Me
As I was cleaning up the piles of fabric in my studio, I found a few pieces I’ve yet to show you. I’m sure there could be a few more still buried in there. Heck, there could be a few small children waiting to be excavated as well! As I’m now preparing for vacation mode (more on that soon), there will undoubtedly be numerous pieces to add to the collection upon my return. These first two are lovely fabrics with my name practically emblazoned across their selvage. I will always be there for martini and champagne fabrics. I should think about making a drinking quilt for when I stiletto stumble home, I can fall right into it. I’d also like to see these turned into fabric gift bags for wine bottles–like an elongated draw string pouch. Anyone got an amazing tutorial for something like this? The paper ones are so impersonal, and I’d like to reduce my environmental footprint by gifting something that is reusable.
I bought more of this V and Co. black and grey ombre fabric for a project I’ve been working on for years. At this stage it’s probably my oldest WIP, and for some reason it just won’t finish itself. I’ve tried roses, gentle coaxing, even a promise not to look at other projects ever again. (Excuse me for a second, just have to hit repeat on this Cranberries track, “Linger.”) Okay, back in the room, so yeah, I figured if I bought some more useful fabric there may be some impetus to put this one the bed.
Now this fine specimen is a rare fabric find. I’m a big fan of Alexander Henry and their often irreverent designs. If you’re part of the uninitiated, they have plenty of traditional designs as well you should explore. Their pin-up series are almost legendary at this stage. This one included, I think I only own pieces from two. (Sacrilege!) While I purchased this Halloween version with no project in mind–forgetting the fact that I’m not a huge holiday quilt maker–at a sale price of $5 / yard I couldn’t resist the end of the bolt. I got several yards, so it is ripe for a backing of a Halloween-themed quilt. I think we all know this fabric is stash bound. Hello, SABLE! Level unlocked!
Just for shits and giggles, what projects have you used your pin-up fabrics for?
Are you going to visit Grandma Sparkles again? We were in that vicinity last month and after doing a few pre holiday orders that I had sent to a friend , a visit to Fabrics by the Pound and two trips to A ans E Fabrics ( who now have a new sign) I managed to bring 56 yards of fabric home. I think that’s my record so far. !
My favorite project I’ve made with the pinup fabric so far has been a rodeo shirt for my daughter to wear during the national rodeo finals in Las Vegas last December. I fussy cut the pink cowgirls to use on the yoke, cuffs and button band and the shirt was a light gray. It’s epic!
If drinks are on you, I’m totally joining this stash party. Absolutely appropriate too, since your drinks of choice are my drinks of choice (living in France and everything 😉 ), and I’m currently sorting through my fabrics, in preparation for our move.
Love those new additions. And I just totally should add some A. Henry to my collection … after the move.
Keep your sparkling blog posts coming. I love your writing style, you always teach me some new English expressions. xoxo, Maria
Pillowcases☺️
I bought some “working men” and made Pillow Cases of course!
I made a Christmas stocking with the Alexander Henry Christmas fabric. So fun!
I used the Valentine hunks for a door prize for a February guild meeting with the theme, “Obsessions.” The winner draped it over the couch while she went to the gym, without telling her hubby. When she got home, he was waiting on the couch in his BVDs, with a strategically placed sock roll… we’re still laughing about it!
A friend at a retreat was making aprons from the randy cowboys. She sends them to a lady in Wyoming (I think) who has a shop and sells them.
Two projects! I used the ski bunny pinup girls in flannel for a night shirt for my bald 50 year old hottie husband. And I used the Xmas hunks as the backing for my Ugly Christmas Sweater Quilt. (That one appalls my husband.)
