Sunday Stash #164 – Metallic-Licious

When you have a good friend named Ms. Midge that says to you, “I’m headed to the Aurifil thread shop, do you need me to pick anything up for you?” You don’t say, “No.” You say, “Yaaaasssss, here’s my credit card can you puh-lease buy me a twelve-spool rainbow concoction of Brillo metallic thread?” Or something to that glorious effect, of course.

I’ve been so over the moon about the Aurifil Brillo collection, when Ms. Midge asked me exactly which specific colours I wanted, my response was one of indifference, “I’ll use them all!” This is no lie, y’all. I’ve recently quilted two quilts myself (woo!) with a gold and a silver, and I don’t think I want to use anything else ever again. Life. Changing. This thread has actually got me excited about quilting my own quilts, something I thought would never happen. I’m finally able to put actual sparkle into my creations wherever I want it!

I’m not a thread expert, but I can tell you that the Aurifil Brillo has been a dream to quilt with. I am using a metallic thread needle, a slightly lower tension, and I haven’t had a single breakage. As an indication, I used just under a spool for high-density, straight line quilting on a lap-sized quilt (48″ x 72″). I also increased my stitch length to 3.5-4 to capitalise on maximum sparkle! If you’re looking for a way to give your quilt a little somethin-somethin-extra, then this is it!
