Will You Marry Me?

So yeah. We need to talk about something. I freakin’ got engaged on Wednesday. Then Thursday I had cereal for breakfast. Exciting week, eh? Goodness, how long have I been wanting to tell YOU, the Glitterati for Charo’s sake, about how many times I’ve been shopping for diamonds! Let me just tell you now how much fun, and stressful it is buying diamond rings: the best and worst! I started shopping around November of last year, finally purchased from Australian designer Canturi in May, and after being custom made, they were delivered in early July. So yes, I’ve been sitting on this little secret for quite a while. Over brunch on Wednesday, 05 August, in the presence of two close personal friends (who ironically have both received quilts from me) I dropped to bended knee and asked the love of my life to marry me. Thank the Holy Madonna Veronica Louise Ciccone he said, “Yes!”
This is the chorus of a song by Jessie Ware titled You & I Forever that I recited as part of my proposal. It’s a bit of a sentimental song for us. Of course in all my nerves (yes, Molli gets nervous too!) I messed up part of the lyrics. I had a swift recovery though, and I think Mr. Sparkles was so shocked at what was happening he didn’t notice too much!
I don’t wanna try alone
We could dream it all
Don’t wanna stop the thought
With you and I forever
Forever
I only wanna team with you
We could dream it all
Don’t wanna stop the thought
With you and I forever
Forever

This is the base design for our rings from Canturi — of course I bought me one, too. Are you crazy? Imagine this ring, but with more diamonds scattered around it and you’ll get an idea of our engagement ring. The wedding band? Oh yes, there’s definitely more diamonds to come. Molli can never sparkle enough! So that’s that, sorry ladies and gents, I’m officially off the market. Now once the Australian government believes in marriage equality, Mr. Sparkles and I will be getting hitched. I guess I better start making that wedding quilt!

  7. Congratulations, Molli (and Mr. Sparkles too, of course!)! And don't forget, Canada has had legal same sex marriage for ten years. There's no way they wouldn't let a super star like you immigrate! 🙂 And Anja @ Anja Quilts will soon be legally able to perform the ceremony! I wouldn't presume to give myself a role in your nuptials as well, but I make a damned fine cupcake!

Molli, honey, that is just incredible, wonderful news! I wish you two nothing but happiness. Like, 'David Butler riding sparkly unicorns in an endless rainbow, wrapped in free but quality fabric, and getting perfect seam allowances just before the long-armer understands EXACTLY what you want' kind of happiness. With cheesecake.

I seem to have dust in my eyes…

You will need to remind your shower & wedding guests that fat quarters are great for wrapping gifts, and the wrapping is reusable! Those large gifts can be wrapped in your favorite yardage.

C'mon Aussie C'mon get with the program! Marriage equality for all !…….. But you do know, speaking as an old married, "ball and chain" for 22 years, (yikes) it means once you say 'I Do" you will talk like a married couple from now on ! Which sometimes means you can go for Days! without talking lol. I love my Hubby but he works so hard for us 🙂 I am very happy for you two. xxx

Congrats to you both! (And here's hoping Australia gets on the equal marriage thing soon! How ridiculous that they're still twiddling their thumbs about it… somehow I always imagine Australia being more progressive than, say, the US at least, so I find it a bit weird and very unfortunate.)
