Sunday Stash #298 – Size Does Matter
I’ve been called a lot of things throughout my life, and well, most of the time those things have been completely true! Ow! One of the more often than not catch phrases thrown my way is that I’m a bit of a size queen. As a quilter, I like big yardage, so sue me! I use a semi-industrial machine, that can put the needle on it 1500 times per minute. Ahem, let me clear my throat because for me the more fabrics the better in a quilt! And I love a big quilt that I can put on top of me–who doesn’t? So maybe I am a size queen after all?!
So when this new to me product showed up on my doorstep last week, I was a bit concerned. With my sizing discernment, how was I to respond to a mini-iron and a similarly sized ironing board?! However, these Prym products fit my small studio space, so I just had to figure out the best project for their use. That’s when I looked at all the lava lamp blocks surrounding me and realised these new items might be perfect for attaching my lava blobs.
I had been using my larger iron for this job, exploring my journey with appliqué and Vliesofix. However, as I began creating smaller and more detailed lava pieces, my big iron had become cumbersome. Also, it’s one of those fancy irons that temperature-regulates for the fabric type, but that doesn’t always bode well for heating the Vliesofix through the fabric. Suddenly, I had a problem in one hand and a solution in the other. This was going to be like a typical Saturday night!
Well, I plugged that Prym mini-iron in, waited for the red light to tell me it was Hot To Go (h o t t o g o! sing it with me!), and began attaching my lava blobs. Let me tell you, that little iron packs a steaming hot punch, and has a big ole knob to grab right onto. Mmmhmm! It had my Vliesofix sticky, and my lava placements sweet. Sticky and sweet, if you will! I was able to make the below lava lamp blocks with extra detail because of this little mighty iron.
Through this experience, my suspicions have been confirmed. When it comes to quilt tools, size does matter! But, when it comes to other tools, I’ll need to do some more research! Ask your local craft and quilt retailers for Prym products because they’re a step above many of the generic items out there. And if you’re looking to get extra hot and steamy, this mighty little mini-iron will give you all the hot flashes you desire!
So this iron sounds amazing! I have two travel irons and both are darn near useless…I went online searching…and this iron doesn’t seem to be available in the US… I found a couple on Etsy… but no retailers available… anyone in the US have a source for this iron?
As always…thanks so much for sharing Molli!
