Sunday Stash #297 – B&W Mardi Gras
Happy Sydney Mardi Gras to all my LGBTQIA+ family! What a fabulous weekend of biodegradable glitter, flying rainbow flags, and disco diva anthems for the ages! While I didn’t march in the parade this year, I gathered some of my best Judys for a toned-down celebration with lots of champagne bubbles on my own couch. We oohed and aahed (and sometimes hissed) at the floats that paraded down Oxford Street. My feet were hurting just thinking about it all.
What’s not hurting are my eyes looking at the latest additions to my fabric stash! Yaasss queens! These are more black and white fat quarters to be used in my monochromatic Lava Lamp quilt. I did a bit of bin diving at Down Patchwork Lane to find these line work style motifs, as well as a heavy black on black tone-on-tone blender. The latter is especially hard to find that doesn’t read completely black, so I’m hoping this will still have enough lightness to be used with a solid black fabric. Sometimes you’ve just got to try it out, so I’ll probably use this particular fabric for my test block.
Speaking of, the Lava Lampalong kicks off on Monday, 18 March, 2024, practically two weeks away! The first week we’ll be pre-cutting some of our fabrics and doing that first test block. This should allow you to familiarise yourself with the pattern, and get all those pesky mistakes out of the way. If you haven’t bought your pattern yet, check out the link below to get yourself ready!
Sounds like a fun day! I’m picking fabrics for the Lava Lamp Along, lots of fun prints!
