Sunday Stash #295 – Prym
Have y’all heard of Prym? Not to be confused with prim of prim and proper fame. Or, Pimm’s, the delicious beverage of ladies who lunch fame. Or even Primm, Nevada, the casino resort town on your way to Las Vegas fame. No, no and no. This is Prym, of industrial products, notions and more fame since 1530. Yes, you read that right, 1530. That’s nearly five-hundred years of fame! This dame could only dream!
Now, I’m no expert on notions, but you might as well take my word for it. ::wink:: But if you’ve been around for 500 years, you must be doing something right, right?! Like, what do you even get someone who’s having a 500 year anniversary party? Um, a magnetic pin cushion with cherry bomb red pin heads! Can you even imagine the faux pas?! Anywho, I must start planning for that aforementioned 500 year anniversary party, yikes! In the meantime, I’ll take one, thank you very much!
While Prym has been primarily European based, they’re starting to branch out into Australia. Prym was generous enough to send me a few items to try out in my sewing studio. Some of these may look awfully familiar–Olfa, anyone? Prym have many partnerships in place with other well-known brands, so you might be unwrapping a product you’re already familiar with at a more generous price. Mmm, hmm, you know we like that!
I haven’t used this bias tape maker, but I’m so intrigued to make some bias tape and turn it into fluid lettering for my quilts. Have you done this? Do you have tips and tricks? Are you bias about any other products that do similar things? Do tell me in the comments so I can get course corrected!
I’ve been using these standard Universal 90/14 needles in my Juki TL-98p machine, much like the many others I have used over the past ten years. I’m pretty sure none of us change our needles as often as we should–ahem, guilty–but if you see these in the shop, pick up a pack so you can try to improve your needle-changing average. Apparently it’s good for us! LOL!
While this is somewhat of a sponsored post, if you’ve been around here more than a hot minute, y’all know that I only serve the hottest of hot truth tea. You’re going to start to see Prym items popping up in a lot of places, but if you want to dive in early check out Sewing Gem and/or JM Embroideries. I’ll be offering up some reviews of a few more of my favourite items in the coming weeks as well. So far Prym seems like a solid offering of a wide-range of quality products that we shouldn’t be afraid to add to our ever growing collections.
Molli. One way to use the tape maker – slot the fabric through the open end, then put a pin straight into your ironing board. Slide the tape maker along the board and iron in your creases as you go. If it’s a very long piece of fabric then just unpin, pull the fabric through, re-pin then carry on ironing. Hope I’ve explained that clearly and is useful to you? You’ll find better instructions on Y.tube 🙂
See above – add – I have large empty spools and I roll the ironed tape onto the spool so it doesn’t unfold or get too unweilding. I love homemade bias tape, but I have also cheated and made it straight of grain. (oops did I say that out loud?) I love toys and have all 3 sizes.
