Quilt Finish – Shaz’s LOL Quilt
This is another quilt that has been finished for ages, but I never showed it on the blog. I’m on a mission to get everything documented, and this placed cleaned up a bit. So bear with me as I force you to look at pictures of pretty quilts. Rough? I know, right!
When I first presented the finished quilt top for Shaz’s LOL Quilt, I described how it was for my “good friend Shaz, it’s made from Liberty of London (LOL), it’s a quilt, and we’ve had too many LOL moments to count.” That pretty much sums up this collection of pretty. But since that post, I got it back from the longarmer, and spent way too long vacillating about the exact colour of binding to use. I knew I wanted a bold pop of colour (quelle surprise), but was it gonna be lime, appletini, banana cream, yarrow, pickle, wasabi? Or was I just hungry!?
I ended up choosing Art Gallery Fabrics Pure in Empire Yellow. It’s one of those yellows that you take a bit more seriously because it’s a bit shady, much like Shaz himself. LOL! Simple square patchwork doesn’t have to be boring, y’all! As the Spice Girls say, Colours of the world, spice up your life! With one stroke of a binding, you can take a quilt leaning towards traditional, and put a contemporary spin on it.
Here’s a detailed in progress shot to show how Liberty of London fabrics combine so lovingly with Essex Yarn Dyed cotton/linen blend fabrics. They’re offered in about forty different colours now, so don’t be afraid to stray outside the grey. If you’ve been hoarding Liberty of London fabrics without a clue what to do with them — start cutting and you’ll quickly find basic patchwork is so satisfying. They’re lighter weight makes them an absolute joy to sew with (and run lovingly across your naked body)!
As if I wasn’t getting enough texture explosions from the front — I went and spilled the tea on the back. I used an Essex Yarn Dyed metallic in steel and paired it up with an Kokka Echino sateen. Lawd. You thought the front gave you all the ASMR feels? Mmm. I don’t know why more people aren’t backing their quilts in sateen because it’s like wrapping one of those five-star hotel robes around you and ordering the entire room service menu. Ask me how I know!?
I’d say from this meta-photo, Shaz will LOLing with his LOL Quilt for years to come! Seeing and writing about this experience has me itching to make another one immediately!

Love the yellow – the binding is the Amen, the Last word. Perfect ending to a perfect story. Thanks!
Sometimes simple is best. Yellow is a fabulous pop
