Sunday Stash #283 – Supporting Players
Way back when at Easter time, which let’s face it was less than a month ago but feels like seventy-three years ago, I woke up in a caravan on a 120-acre property and promptly began to buy fabric on my phone while chasing a cellular signal with one hand and eating chocolate bunny rabbits with the other. It’s ridiculous, I know, but welcome to my life. (Stop on by, kick the heels off and stay a while!) Darling quilt shop, My Fabricology, was having some sort of sale that had me feeling some sort of way. I managed to lock in that mobile signal for the briefest of moments and lock in these fabrics!
If you’ve seen bits and bobs (not boobs) of my Molli Sparkles Shirt and Tie quilt blocks you may have noticed that there are a range of skin tones included. This is a really important component of the design for me, and one I’ll be continuing to talk about as I reveal the full quilt top later this week. But basically, representation matters, and the only way you can do that is with skin tone fabrics! Cue the browns, peaches and creams (not be confused with Peaches & Herb, of 1978 hit, Shake Your Groove Thing fame)! I know so many of you don’t like brown — I get it — but also, get over it. It’s colour, use it. How’s that for a little bit of sass on a Sunday morning!? Mmmkay! Featured here top to bottom: Devonstone Pavlova, Kona Champagne, and Devonstone Seeded.
I also found (aka purchased but found sounds so much more scavenger-hunt-esque exciting!) this 3.5 metre remnant from Art Gallery Fabrics Pastel Thrift range. Normally, I wouldn’t purchase such a large-scale print, but as it’s a text fabric, a neutral colour, and large meterage on sale, it will make the perfect backing fabric! Into the stash it goes, ready for its time in the spotlight–on the back of a quilt. Let’s face it, some fabrics are just meant to be supporting players! Bless!
All different colors aren’t we? And with love and common sense we all blend together to become “earth’s family”. Waiting for the “shirt & tie unveiling’
Truth – Skin Tones: Nicole Kidman to John Legend to Louis Armstrong – got a big palette to fill.
I got so excited with the address of Bayswater WA – I thought it was Washington State!
The shirt and tie quilt fabrics are on the table. Ready to rock and roll! Thanks!
Can’t wait to see this quilt. You are right. Quilts speak and having the range of human colours sends an important message of inclusivity
thank you for your Sunday sass about brown – personally I like brown and I bet those people who claim not to like brown like chocolate, ergo they like brown !!
