Sunday Stash #280 – Patchwork Plus
Mr. Sparkles and I recently went on a regional luxury escape right here outside of Sydney. We’ve been burned a few times recently with state border closures, so decided to stay more local and enjoy what New South Wales had to offer. Plus, we have an amazing friend in Mudgee, which is a local haven for fifty or so wineries. Um, did I say haven? I mean’t heaven! On the drive out there, I made sure we stopped at just about every quilt shop in our path. One of my faves was Patchwork Plus in Blackheath nestled right in the Blue Mountains. They have a major mix of modern, contemporary and traditional fabrics for all tastes.
These checks and stripes are called Lanna Wovens by Indie Fabric Studio, which is the same Australian design house that produces A Day In the Country spots and checks. Each of the colour ways have names like Daydream, Escape, Bohemian, Parade and Courage. Honestly, I think someone’s been listening to some Mariah Carey and girl, that’s alright by me! All of these have got me singing some major whistle notes!
Just look how wonderfully saturated they are! When I saw these glowing gems at Patchwork Plus, it wasn’t a matter of which ones were coming home with me. It was a matter of which one’s weren’t! I had to show major restraint in not buying the whole damn collection. As Mr. Sparkles was patiently (truly) watching my fabric shopping process, I had to let my discernment edit out some of the more subdued pieces. I settled on ten each of the checks and stripes.
As each of these are shot cottons the warp and weft threads are different colours. This is what is making some of them truly glow, and provide varying levels of translucency. I haven’t sewn with them yet, but I’ve been told they work a treat! They have a light drape, with a texture that seems to float across the skin. I already have a project in mind that combines all of these, but at this rate I’m gonna need a studio assistant! Since my studio has a bed in it, maybe that’s not such a bad idea!
This isn’t all I bought there, so I’ll have to show you those next week. Patchwork Plus has me already thinking I need to buy a luxury country estate next door so it can be my new local. If you’re in the area, make sure you drop in because you might find me still sifting through those fat quarter bins! Help!
What wonderful colors. Wish we could get them in the States.
Seriously – midnight, 20 inches of snow, plumber coming tomorrow to fix busted pipe and I’m GIDDY about your new fabric. Went to her pages and fell like Alice! Thanks for sharing!!!
Wowza! What a find! Love them all. I don’t think we have these at my LQS.
Question for you… when you go shopping and see all of this fabulousness do you buy a yard/ meter of each OR do you shop with a plan and buy the amount in a specific pattern?
Fabulous colors–they sparkle just like your smile. Glad it was a great getaway
