Australia Is On Fire – How You Can Help
As you are probably aware, Australia is on fire. More than fifteen million acres have burned this bushfire season. More than 1300 homes have been destroyed. Eighteen people have died, including volunteer firefighters, many more are still missing. Whole communities are being evacuated by sea. The air quality throughout affected areas has diminished to some of the worst in the world. The large animal population has been ravaged as well; a third of koalas in New South Wales were burned alive. Australia is on fire.
So how can you help? Donations can be made to the Rural Fire Service, Red Cross, Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul … links to all can be found here. This money is used to help displaced people who have lost everything with shelter, food, water; all of those items we take for granted. Right now they need your money, more than they need your thoughts and prayers.
Local community group, Crafty Adventures HQ will be distributing quilts and/or blankets to locals in need. Visit their Facebook page for more information. They are literally opening their doors and inviting people into their homes for rest and respite.
For those that aren’t aware, our local area has been hit hard by the bushfires. So much devastation. So many people left with nothing… We are ok for now, but so many people are hurting and it will take months or years to find their new normal. This weekend it’s expected to be worse conditions than yesterday, so it’s far from over…
If you are able to donate a quilt, or a crocheted or knitted blanket, please send them to us and we will get them to local families who now have nothing. If you are in an area affected by these awful fires, feel free to donate locally instead. Add a little note that can be gifted with it if you like. If you don’t have anything finished, maybe it’s a great new year project to work on.

There’s also the Animal Rescue Craft Guild that accept donations of items designed and made for injured and displaced animals. Think birds nests, kangaroo joey pouches, and koala mittens. There are patterns for all required items. Please visit their Facebook page for more information.
Australia is on fire. Thank you for helping us however you can.
Thanks so much for sharing Molli!
I just saw a friend at Coles as we were gathering supplies (we expect to loose power and many more homes tomorrow) and he and his family have lost everything!
I told him we are making quilts and will have some for his kids asap and he started crying… again… but this time they were grateful tears.
My Sister and I run Crafty Adventures from our homes in Ulladulla and Burrill Lake. The devastation is so hard to describe in words 🙁
Thanks for writing this, Molli! I was born in Aus, although I have lived in the UK for most of my life. Seeing my birth country on fire is distressing, but not half so distressing as it must be for the people caught up in it.
Stay safe, everyone.
Thanks so much for sharing all these ways we can help. The situation is so dire and so many of us just want to help xxx
Thank you Molli! We all want to help, and you’ve given us ways to do that. I’m on it, Molli!

Molli – Thanks for the link’s to donate money. I’ve been watching the news every day and it seems no end is in sight for all those involved, in whatever they are doing to end this catastrophe and the pain and suffering for all who have lost everything. My heart breaks for everyone 🙁
