Don’t Be a Dick Quilt – Sew Fresh Quilts
When Lorna of Sew Fresh Quilts casually asked to purchase my Don’t Be a Dick quilt block from me, I responded with something akin to, “Don’t be a dick, just have it!” Although we’ve never met, I’ve known Lorna through the quilting and blogosphere for numerous years. We have a similar sense of humour, and I was more than eager to see what she’d cook up with this saucy block. At about the same time, Lorna mentioned to me via social media that she’d be keen to do a small project swap of some sort. At the very least, she just wanted to send something to me and Mr. Sparkles.
I don’t do a lot of project swaps, mainly because of my limited time availability, but I thought this one was worth it. So I had to say “yes,” and I’d figure out what to make along the way. Then life carried on, as it’s prone to do. That is until one day when I was on an overseas work trip and chatting with Mr. Sparkles back in Sydney. “You got a package today, a big one.” (Not an altogether unusual comment, considering). I eagerly asked him to open the top flap to peak inside. “It’s a quilt from someone named Lorna!” He sent me a quick snap and I knew instantly that this was something special. I asked him not to open it completely until we were together, so we could both enjoy whatever naughty or nice surprise it contained!
Once I got home, and we did open it, gurrrl. It was both naughty and nice! What a shocker, as this is no ordinary quilt! This is a deluxe Don’t Be a Dick quilt! Lorna had taken my pattern and definitely made it her own. Some of the dicks she plumped up, and some of them she stretched out. Some came in all the colours of the rainbow, and others show that black never goes out of style! Ow!
You’d be hard pressed not to notice the pièce de résistance right smack dab in the middle of this glorious quilt. If you’re wondering how to make me laugh? Take my Don’t Be a Dick quilt block and turn it into a Don’t Be a Dildo quilt block! LOL! I kid you not, those are straps ready to strap-on. We ain’t flying to the moon y’all, just to outer space! I mean, I guess my quilt block now caters to even more types! A little lovin’ for all your muffins!
To take this wild thing one step further, Lorna included a foxy-fresh block she designed on the back. This is loosely inspired by that illustrated fox that is found in the Tula Pink border fabric used throughout the front. What a way to say g’day, hey?! If you’re more interested in the fox than the dick, I don’t really know what to tell you, but I’m sure Sew Fresh Quilts can help you out with a pattern.
After truly taking all the dick in (I mean that took a while, it’s a lot of dick), I’ve decided this is going to be my new picnic quilt. I can’t wait to go to the park, flop it out, and sit on a bunch of dicks! Good times. Good times. It will be a conversation starter if nothing else, right? I have to send an incredible thank you to my friend Lorna of Sew Fresh Quilts. THANK YOU. This majestic piece really took our breath way. I now show it off to all my friends who come over, and I’ve even let a few cop a feel! You can see more photos and read more about Lorna’s process from her post about this quilt.
This should go without saying, but if you’re feeling a bit offended, or butt-hurt about the word dick, or it being featured in a quilt: Bye! If you think some rainbow pieces of fabric sewn together to resemble an 18″ version of a cartoon-shaped penis is pornographic: Bye! If you have some feedback to give about me or Lorna as human beings: Bye! I will clap back, and glitter in the eye is a bitch to get out! (Ask me how I know). LOL!

That is disgusting – personal opinion.
Dicks are delicious – personal opinion.
Have to add another comment, after the one above. Great quilt! That’s my daughter’s favourite expression, don’t be a dick. Or one she uses to me very frequently, even if it is biologically impossible for me!
you lost my vote, not that you care.
I didn’t even know we were voting!
Fabulous! I love it. Thanks for all the fun you put into patchwork and quilting
Very Funny!! People need to get over themselves!! 🙂
Different strokes for different folks. (Pun intended.) Love the quilt. Haven’t figured out who I can make this for yet — maybe myself…for all the men I’ve loved before…Hahaha
I Absolutely LOVE 💘💚💛💙💜💚❤💗This quilt.
Love it! I love a good giggle and you and Lorna definitely accomplished that! Have been following both of your blogs for years. NEVER CHANGE! I look forward to every single post and always end up laughing out loud. And that is good for the soul. I always say, “A little bit of smut makes the world go around!” Enjoy your new quilt.
I’m not a quilter. Your post came up on my Bloglovin’ feed and I laughed til I peed my pants.
Sister, you are in my tribe! How can I order this pattern as a gift for someone who does quilt?
There is a link above, Pat.
Fabulous. Your write up is great. Puns are great. Lorna is wonderful and saucy and so creative! If the world knew how many of us really “normal” appearing people had dildoes in our night stand, well, the world would lighten up a bit. There is no river that friendship can’t bridge. Two digits way way up!!
