Sunday Stash #264 – Fabric Meandering
These all came from a trip to Canberra I took at the end of last year. Mr. Sparkles and I took a meandering journey on our way home, stopping in a multitude of local quilt shops. Some I had been to before, some were brand new, and we even stumbled into a few that weren’t quite built yet! I was in the mood for colour on this day, and looking back, I wasn’t afraid to saddle up to a nice, novelty print either!
One shop that I remembered from a previous trip was also our first stop: Calico Patch. It’s located in the Nicholls part of the ACT. Most of the fabric curated for the shop has a traditional vibe, but each time I’ve been there I’ve found some wild and wacky pieces to take home. The Sassy Animals by Connie Haley for 3 Wishes Fabric above is a case in point. Of course I chose the two pieces that didn’t feature any animals! Sassy or not, you can keep the cats and dogs off my fabric.
But dear animal lovers, don’t fret! I more than made up for that slight, by picking up these pieces with unicorns and echidnas. Hey, if there are gonna be beasts on my fabric, they are gonna be fantastical, horned-horses, egg-laying mammals or some other almost make-believe creature. These novelty pieces will fit into some sort of quilt, I’m sure.
I couldn’t help but stock up on some of this Carolyn Friedlander lawn print that was on sale, sale, sale. When you find fabric on sale in Australia, gurl, you pick it up. You pick it all up! If I remember correctly, I bought the remainder of the bolt for this one because it was about half price. Which means it was still more expensive than U.S. prices, but whatcha gonna do!? (Just add it to the cart, that’s what!) I also couldn’t leave home without this Liberty-esque neon-jungle print. It’s vibrancy is giving me all the inspo lately!
Along our trip, I managed to find rainbows in all the colour ways! I really don’t think it is possible to go wrong with a rainbow novelty print, so I’m always happy to catch a few rays. These are getting stashed, but I’d love to throw a few into some improv-rainbowy madness with colours exploding everywhere. Or is that just what the inside of my brain looks like?
Whenever Mr. Sparkles is with me in a fabric shop, he’s hot on the hunt for airplane fabric. While this one is a bit more postal than plane, it came home with me as well. It doesn’t take a lot to convince me I should be flying high in Business Class!
Which reminds me, tomorrow I’m off to Hong Kong, and I’ve got a free day. I’m hoping to limit my fabric intake by taking a small (-ish) suitcase. Or, like always, I end up having to buy another bag. Let’s see if I can hold strong this week! Lourdes give me strength!
Fabulous – as usual! Had to check out the availability of ALL of them. Thanks for sharing again – we all love it. Can’t wait to see what comes of the electric colors (personal favs.)
Thanks again.
p. s. Hong Kong – buy a box, go to the Post office, mail it home. Lovely gift to yourself 2 weeks later
I love to see all,the wonderful, finds you uncover in your travels! Have a great shopping time in Hong Kong and fit in a little work if you can manage it! Safe travels,
