Sunday Stash #262 – Twisted Butlers
Having that little social media break was as pleasant as peach wine on a Wednesday night. I don’t want y’all to think I hate social media, just everything in moderation. (Except champagne! There’s no time to be moderate with champagne!) Case in point: a few weeks ago I realised I was about a F8 short of this Parson Gray fabric I’m using in my Twisted Butlers quilt. So I put a quick call out on my Instagram feed (molli_sparkles) to see if anyone had any to spare. Why, of course they did! Kathryn Jones Quilts popped a FQ in the post and I was back in action like a cheerleader on a Friday night! I’ll make sure to balance my fabric karma and look to fulfil someone else’s ISO post in the near future!
And that Twisted Butlers quilt? Well, here’s a further glimpse of this work-in-progress. It’s coming together very slowly. That has more to do with my boredom at the mindless sewing and related processes that are happening, rather than any difficulties. I know I’m going to love this quilt when finished, but right now I’m just creating the same block over and over again, which is zapping the inspiration out of me. I keep reaching to one of my pre-destined bundles to start something new. Then I slap my hand back into submission, and cut another quarter inch seam from one of these paper-pieced blocks.
If I lose my concentration for even a minute, especially this close to being finished, this WIP will wind up back in the closet. No! This is happening. Me and my new piece of fabric demand it. Help me stay strong y’all! Any tips on how you stay focused through these dark, troubled and boring times?
Drink more champagne 🥂
A glass of wine and a slap on the forehead 🙂
I’m totally weird and love breaking down a project into the total number of blocks I need. If I know I can comfortably piece 1 or 2 blocks a day, I write down the block numbers in groups I can cross off a list because it feels so good to mark of something as “done” and see the progress piling up on a short list. I hope you find what helps you stay focused and motivated!
I like listening to a recorded book for mind numbing stuff. If you don’t need to read instructions at the same time it’s great. it keeps me motivated.
How big of a font can I use for OMG THIS IS GORGEOUS!!!!!!
Take comfort in knowing we have all done something so mindless that turns out to be so awesome – but this will be the BEST EVER!!!! Thanks for sharing
Nik Wallenda said it best! “I’m facing Niagara Falls – the wind and the mist and the dark and the peregrine falcons – and I’m going to stay focused on the other side.” It’s a gorgeous quilt, Molli!

It is sometimes the most simple designs that provide the greatest impact. I just love that block. For me I would have gone off and started something new. I have a trail of WIPs. I do go back to things but sometimes much later. I just finished a quilt I began in 2001. (When you were a baby). I think I make the most progress when everything stays set up and I don’t have to drag it out cuz out of sight is out of mind.
Well Molli, from a purely selfish point of view I think you need to power on so that we can all see the finish. It is such an elegant block because of the colours you choose and I believe the end result will be wonderful. Just a tad more champagne then …
I do what you’re trying to do. I play with some other fabric; have a look at some beautiful patterns; maybe sew some random UFO. Then, all of a sudden, I’m back into it.
Love this Molli! But got totally distracted writing this comment by the scrolling ‘Molli and Mr Sparkles Convo’ on the left!
It is going to be a gorgeous quilt but maybe make goals to get so much done each day and then plat afer that!
I really love this pattern…hate repetition, but I have decided to give it a go. Thanks for your inspiration!
I’m looking forward to scrap busting with this wonderful pattern. A big thanks from Montreal.
