Sunday Stash #194 – Shimmer 2 & Friends
This week’s Sunday Stash is brought to you by the amazing people in our quilting community! When I set about creating my Shimmer City Sampler as part of the #100days100blocks Instagram quilt along, I had a whole bundle of Jennifer Sampou’s Shimmer range in my stash to work with. That’s probably because since its release I’ve bought three fat quarter bundles of it! Obviously, I absolutely hate it. LOL! However, I soon realised that this quilt needed an injection of colour that would only come with the subsequent collection, Shimmer 2. As I ransacked my fabric stash looking for Shimmer 2, I found what I like to call fabric dust. That is, not much!
Thankfully, the quilting community came to the rescue. I put out an ISO request on Instagram, and it was met with numerous offers to help me out. I simply posted the nine pieces I was after, and I’m glad to say I now have every single one of them. Y’all know I love shopping from our fabulous fabric retailers, but I also love the idea of rescuing fabric from fellow quilters’ stashes. It does no one any good if fabric is going to waste in a fabric retiring home! In fact, there’s still more of it on its way. Considering my track record with the first range of Shimmer, I highly doubt any of Shimmer 2 is gonna be sticking around for long. So a big, beautiful thank you to Mary (Quilt Genius), Jenni, and Laurelle for helping a fellow fabric lover out!
So if you’re looking for those perfect pieces for your next project, it never hurts to ask the entire community. Collectively, we have a big mother of a stash, and I’d love to see it get used. My stash isn’t giant (Mr. Sparkle’s begs to differ), but if anyone is ever in need, feel free to reach out, and I’ll happily try to do in kind what was graciously offered to me!

Proof positive of what I always say…quilters are special people… I’m always amazed as to how willingly quilters share…if it is knowledge…skills…tools…patterns…and in this case fabric…how incredible is that! I’ve even had a perfect stranger offer to pay for my fabric when I realized I left my wallet at home…WOW…quilters are wonderful people!
How awesome that you were able to find what you needed. 🙂
So glad you found what you needed. And yes, a few months ago someone on IG rescued a FQ stack from my stash that was lingering away. I was so glad to help out ( and make more room..lol)
Grays or Greys, depending on how you like to spell it, always go well with Yellows.
