WiP Wednesday – Sewjo
It’s been so long since I’ve done a work in progress Wednesday, that I figured I should just sit down, pour myself a long shot of whiskey, and work. it. out. (werk!) My mother-in-law has stolen her Canon DSLR from me, which had been on loan. How dare she, right? She says she’s going to Dubai for a wedding, and then to see family in Ireland, but really, I’m trying to run a quilt blog here!!! (Jokes aside, it is time for me to get my own camera gear! I’m a Canon kinda gal, so feel free to leave any suggestions in the comments). All that to say, that my iPhone has been my trusty go to camera, and here are some recent shots from Instagram (molli_sparkles). If you aren’t following me, you’d best get on board, choo! choo!!
Here are some Modern Butterflies I’m making for a top secret project, but I’m not very good at keeping secrets! The problem is, in my haste, I completely misread the diagrams, and those outer part of the wings are supposed to be the same as the background colour. Fail me now! Not to fear, I’m remaking them all (plus more!) and I think I’ll turn these into something entirely different. I mean, they are still divine after all!
And yes, I’m still working on my Liberty Lanterns long-term project. I’ve probably got about 40 lanterns made, and I printed off a bunch more paper piecing patterns today. It’s hard to put them in perspective from this one photo, but the lanterns are going to be all different sizes. I’ve got a perspective trick up my sleeve, that I’m hoping to pull off with gusto. My favourite part of this is using such a variety of Liberty fabrics, but I’m keeping them calmed on the sea of dark blues.
Then there’s this business that I’m making for the latest round of the No Girls Allowed Quilt Bee 2. I’ve actually finished it already, but I need to get some good daylight before showing you a proper photo. Let me just say this though: I contemplated telling the other gents to piss off just so I could keep this quilt top for myself. It’s one of those favourite thing moments!
Now this is where I might need some of your help. Because I desperately want to turn this into a paper pieced pattern, and I need some of you to keep on top of me so that I do. This was some wallpaper I found in a cafe recently, and it is just screaming its tits off at me that it wants to be a quilt for Mr. Sparkles’s bed. That dingy, seafoam green has gots to go (1989 was good, but not that good), but I think I could make this happen with some David Butler. Sexy, meet, Sexy, now you’re multiplying! Anyway, stay tuned for that, and if there’s too much radio silence on that front, someone slap me up the beehive!
Now, since Mr. Sparkles is away this week, I’m gonna go get my sewjo on!
Ooooh you do have a lot going on. I’m glad I’m not the only one with a few works in progress at one time. I am totally in love with your Liberty lanterns and cannot wait to see the final layout. Love the wallpaper idea too. X
Hectic times in the life of Molli! Love the butterfly blocks and the Liberty Lanterns. I think liberty needs some taming down and the dark blue does the trick! I have a Nikon D3100 camera and love it. It has a lot of bells & whistles that I haven’t a clue about…but it takes lovely pictures!
That seafoam green screams 1950s greasy diner along Route 66 to me. I think it will make a stunning PP design and I like that the white highlights aren’t used every column…
Woo-woo girl, check out all your WIPs. Lookin’ mighty sparkly to me. Can’t wait to see them all put together.
looking forward to testing cafe wallpaper quilt, i think it would look mighty fine in vintage fabric.
Hasn’t Amy from 13 spools done that wallpaper design (or something VERY similar) already? And not even that long ago (maybe within a year). Perhaps after her book came out…
Oh well, not exactly as close as I remembered, but it’s here if you want to take a look…

oh I love the colours in your butterflies. Glad they will the used in something else. Your post is so intriguing today. I’m dying to see your perspective trick for the lanterns, the NGA quilt, and what you will develop out of that wallpaper pattern. I think you’re being a bit harsh on poor old sea foam green, though. But I can just see that in parson grey fabrics *drool.
Busy, busy! Well I’m thinking that it might be time for Santa to bring you your own splendiferous camera if you’re selfish mother-in-law is going to hog her own camera, cheeky woman!
