Wallpaper to Pattern
Last week I showed you this fabulously delicious wallpaper I discovered in a Sydney cafe. I promised that I was going to get on to making it into a quilt design, and I did it! I didn’t even need any chastising from the Glitterati, thank you very much! Honestly, I thought you were going to have to be riding me hard, but I guess when you want it, you gotta get ‘er done!
So this is what I came up with. It will be a paper pieced block, but actually much simpler than I initially thought as I twirled my fingers through last week’s weave. I’m showing it here in that same sea foam green of the photograph, but I still think this has real potential in coppery, David Butler tones. I’m tossing up on the size at the moment, although I’m leaning towards a 5″ x 7.5″ repeating, finished block. That will create a full diamond shape of 10″ x 15″. Bear in mind that stylistically there is one block, but you have to make its pair as a mirror reverse.
I was originally going to make this just for me, but if anyone is interested, I’ll gladly share the pattern on the blog for free. It was pretty simple to make, so I can’t really see much use in charging anyone anything other than a kiss on the cheek for it! I’m just pretty chuffed that I turned this wallpaper to a pattern, and I finally have my sights set on a quilt for Mr. Sparkles!
Well done! Air kisses on the cheek from rainy Oregon!
ok babe. I LOVE anything in David Butler’s (tones). Sigh. Your block is as awesome as you. x
I love it!
Beautiful! Perhaps a future submission to Make Modern?
Thank you for the pattern, sending you a kiss from Athens, Greece!
I think you charge for this pattern, it may have simple to you, but I’m not sure it would have been for me. At the very least you should be able to get two kisses for it!
Leaving lipstick on your cheek for that pattern
Yes please…Love the wallpaper and the block, perfect! Double cheek kiss for the pattern!
I would love the pattern, where can I download it? Love this pattern, it’s so modern. Thanks for sharing your talent with the rest of us.
OMG! I loved this wallpaper photo and am thrilled that you made it into a pattern. Kisses from California.
So cute you’re one talented guy! Great job and kisses to you from sunny California cheers Sharon
How great is this pattern! Please enter for download on the blog! I send in return hot kisses from Poland!
I love this one, Molli. I’ve been searching for just such a pattern to make a quilt for my brother. I’d love it if you shared this gorgeous pattern. I’m imagining it in a reverse colour way, with neutral in the green areas and navy and midnight purple and indigo in flashes here and there. Kisses from Armidale.
Great job. I’m not a fan of paper piecing, but this is a great block.
*mwah* *mwah* from my little island. I need to find my sewjo again… it’s been too long…
Kisses from Canada as well!
mmmmmwahh!! from western New York . . . home of Snowvember 2014 . . .
Would love the pattern.
Once you added the lines, I could see the block. I hope you will share it because anything mid-century is always so cool. Don’t underestimate your design capability. Not everyone could make that up into a pattern. Coincidentally, I was watching Bewitched yesterday and saw a wallpaper that I wanted to make into a quilt, too! Great minds and all that. 😉
Awesome Molli…sending across some glitter for you to sparkle even more 🙂
Its always so difficult to come up with designs for boy quilts…this is super duper awesome !
I would love to have this pattern – totally fab!
Wow, what a fantastic block!! I just love it. Please share the pattern as it looks like it would be fun to make..
Holy Moly! Me thinks your getting smothered in kisses! Count me in “)
