Alyce over at Blossom Heart Quilts has a wonderful post up about Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year: Radiant Orchid. If it wasn’t for her, I would have missed the memo! She gives you the skinny on Kona matching, and some thoughts on where to go with your love/hate relationship with purple. Where do I stand? Meh. I think it’s cool that Pantone is trying to tell us what the latest trends are (meanwhile starting production on retail swag in Radiant Orchid colours), but I’ve never been one to follow trends!
One of my readers, Auntie Pami, contacted me to let me know that Fat Quarterly have put out a call for contributors. There next three issues will be “Pre-Cuts,” “Zakka,” and “Christmas,” so if you have any ideas, make sure you give them a shout! None of those really float my boat at the moment, so I’ll be sitting this round out, but I’d love to see you make it into this great publication!
If you’re in Sydney, my local quilt shop, The Remnant Warehouse is having a holiday sale next weekend. They have a lot of modern fabrics, and get the latest ranges in nearly as fast at the US. Yes, they are nearly $24/m, but at 25% off, it makes it a bit more palatable at $18/m. (Just so you know, I’m not sponsored by them–or anyone–just aiding in your stash building!) Plus, the staff that work there are extremely nice, and have some amazing colour skills!
Finally, do you know about No Hats In the House? If you don’t, you should, which is why I have to tell you about her. Sarah just finished a double wedding ring (DWR) quilt that is magical, in both appearance and concept. The arcs are made entirely of Liberty fabrics, and the centre points are made of (her own design) 96-piece diamonds. Uh, yeah. Cray-cray-good. Not to mention the “justice for all” ideology behind it, which appeals to both my heartstrings and intellect. Go show Sarah some lovin’!
Now, you can go about your business. Have a great weekend!
A little jealous that it's already Saturday for you! The diamond center pieces are cray-cray, but beautiful. Thanks for the PSAs, and enjoy your weekend.
The diamond centers are also done in oakshotts, which makes it just that much better. But you know I <3 Sarah!
I'm excited about the new pantone color because I have hope that means we'll see more purple choices in fabrics! It's been pretty dire the last few years in that range of the rainbow.
Oh Heck, wonder how many purple quilts I can think up…., it is one of my fav colours
Apparently Sherwin Williams named Imperial Plum their colour of the year, to go along with the purple parade. I'm a little grumpy about it … it's a darker shade of the colour for my bedroom walls that I love and it's a little like when you fall in love with a tiny indie band and they blow up and get mainstream. Hopefully it means I'll have an easy time finding purples next year, though.
Is this "PSA" going to be a regular post? I hope so, it's great (no pressure!)
TRW Sale? Bad Molli You…… for telling me….enabler whatever….and yes, the staff are pretty special!
You just know I'm going to go diving in my liberty stash now don't you 🙂
Yeah, don't do too much with that Pantone colour, it's a bit much on a Sunday morning coupled with your background colour ;o)
I love purple but that particular shade leaves me cold, blah! Don't think its going to appear in too many of my plans for the year! Spectacular wedding ring quilt, with diamonds no less. Can't get more sparkle than diamonds! Gorgeous. Love it when someone reinterprets an old pattern!
