WiP Wednesday – “D!” – Codeword for Zach Don’t Read This
So what is that title all about? Well, I’m making a quilt for my best gay friend forever (BGFF–learn it, live it, love it). He knows I’m making it, but he still wants to be surprised with the final outcome, and progress shots will ruin all that business. Since he reads my blog, I gots to have some sort of code word in the title to tell him to get to steppin’! Because he likes the big D, and the quilt is Disney themed, the codeword is simply “D!”
Also, so as not to even give him a photograph glimpse in any picture preview, the first photo is from one of the last bee blocks I have had to make for the year. This is a hooked hexagon block from a Film In the Fridge tutorial. Not gonna lie, I think this hooked hexagon block is ugly. (You should know by now this blog is not one where I tell you everything is beautiful and expect you to do the same). That being said, this block taught me how to make half-rectangle triangle blocks! Which for me has been the most amazing part of being in bees, the growth and learning of skills that comes with each month.
Now, here’s where the D! part comes in. I know this looks like a whole lot of nothin’ right now, but I promise you, it’s gonna be all sorts of animated fabulous in a few weeks. I’m hoping to have a finished quilt top before Christmas, but since each of those squares are a finished 1.5″, we’ll see how I go. The fabric is Lizzy House Constellations with coordinating homespun solids, and I’m working from my own design.
So yeah, D! It’s just between you and me, and well everyone, except Zach. This D! is gonna be big!
berrry berrry interwesting…….
Cannot wait to see more of this quilt – I think I know what it is becoming and I'm excited to see the transformation!
I swear, I only read your blog to get glimpses of things like "he likes the big D". Quilt world and real world are very different flavors for me, but you do a great job of mixing them together. 😀
In other news, pixel constellation quilt is very intriguing. Can't wait to see what you do with it!
You are straying from AG?
In other news, those corners are damn near perfect!
Don't tell me any secrets, I'm no good at keeping them lol 🙂
Ooo, if that's a pixel quilt, he really MUST be a best friend forever! I just finished my first pixel quilt (using Happy Zombie's Ron Swanson Along) and it is amazing and wonderful, but goodness gracious, so many squares. And mine finished at 2", not 1"! I'm excited to see the Disney pixel!
I have no guess as to what this might be but I like it 🙂
I love surprises! What a great friend he must be, and you must be, to work with those tiny blocks. I wondered how that first block was going be Disney, so glad it was just a red herring. I look forward to watching the quilt come together.
I, too, have no idea what it could be but I love the fabric you've used in that hooked hexagon – what is it?
Hey there! Thanks for the link to "How to make half-rectangle triangle blocks." I don't get half the quilting done as you and I don't work. Nice going!!!
Love the pixel block. Great colors. I can hardly wait for your big revel. I am getting ready to start making mine next year. I will be making a rainbow quilt that will be pixelated for my daughter.
Huh, I didn't know Blue's Clues was Disney… ;o)
