Strings, Minis & Bears
A couple of weeks ago I pondered about string piecing without a foundation and managed to devise a pretty simple method for myself. I’ve used it a couple of times with great success. Paula at Mud Pies and Pins even gave it a whirl and created a super cute mini quilt for her big, bad grizzly bear to snuggle up with.
With Rachel at Stitched In Color hosting a Festival of Strings and Jennifer at Ellison Lane Quilt hosting a Modern Mini Quilt Challenge, I thought I could shoot a couple of hot lady birds out of the sky by using my own tutorial to make a string pieced mini quilt. I took the original string block I had assembled, and started improving pieces to it. It was a complete fly by the seat of my gold sparkly hot pants situation. I’ve still gotta attach and sew down the binding, which will be in that same blood orange stripe.
There are heaps of imperfections, but it will make a great mini quilt for my own big, bad grizzly bear.
Ooh love it! The quilting is great too!
Pretty cool design. Well done!
That's one lucky sparkly grizzly you've got. Great design, I love the orange, it really pops.
Nice one! Perfect colour match to your big bad sparkly….I mean grizzly bear! Grrrr!
Nice touch mixing up the blocks with some negative space. Thanks for joining in and linking to you tutorial!
At last! The big picture. 🙂 It's lovely. I like the straight line random quilting too. You rock and so does your sparkly (seriously) grizzly. x
Liking the random quilting, and of course, who could pass up a sparkly ursos
Gorgeous – and the quilting choice is perfect.
Sparkly Tenderheart? Yes. Mostly definitely.
I'm going to have to make one similar to this if you don't mind. I love the pattern you've created!
Great design and I love the quilting too! 🙂
Striking design. I like the colors with the white background…looks so fresh and modern.
