The Honey Pot Bee: August
I think I have finally got caught up with all of my blocks, which feels really great as we slide further into the second half of the year. I’m starting to visualise how my quilt will look when complete, and I hope you are too. Keep that visualisation going with each block you make. With the August blocks below choose fabrics that are going to assist with bringing the rest of your blocks together into a cohesive unit. Consider grabbing some of your previous scraps and using them right here to tell the full story. Now’s not the time to go rogue!
Our first royal member for August is a special quilter very dear to my heart and journey. Sam Hunter of Hunter’s Design Studio epitomises everything I love about the quilting community. She is honest, daring, challenging, welcoming, and encouraging. She’s not afraid to demand her worth, but does it with a level head that doesn’t demean the worth of others. Her We Are $ew Worth It campaign has inspired a legion of fans (including myself) and we should all take a page out of this book! Sam took her moment as queen quite literally and designed us all a new paper-pieced Queen Bee Block! One can never have too many crowns!
I’m Sam Hunter, a fiber artist and quilt pattern designer. I started sewing when I was 7 and haven’t really stopped since. I started quilting in my 20’s, and teaching quilting shortly thereafter.
I hold an MFA in Fiber Arts, and blend this classic training with my sense of play in all that I do. I believe that everyone has innate artistic talent, and I love helping people find theirs.
I’m a relaxed, encouraging, and generous teacher, and I love to share the joy of making beautiful things.

Our other lovely royal this month is Rebecca, who affectionately calls me her Sparkly Boy. Who am I to argue with that adoration?! I was so pleased to see her official selection for The Honey Pot Bee as I have been wanting to make one of these for ages. From her excitement, it looks like I may need to make a few! Read on for a little bit about her and her block choice.
Hi! I’m Becs from @oneweebird and I’ve been quilting for about 16 years. I’m the daughter of a dressmaker (I’m a terrible seamstress!) and the granddaughter of a tailor (lineage means nothing!) I’m also known as the parental unit of four other human beings. Sam–23–tattoo artist in Melbourne, Noah–19–money draining student in Wellington, Jacob–18–about to start a building apprenticeship while still at home (probably forever!), and my smallest person, Charlie–5–mini-me!

Oh my, I love the inverse version of the block that Rebecca made. Brilliant!
That crown reminds me of the Sydney Opera House, appropriate huh? I love all the crowns, and different ways of putting them together. In keeping with that theme, would it be possible for another “bonus” block? Perhaps a scepter, or 2? I mean every member of royalty that has a crown should have something to bop people on the head, or sprinkle glitter? Just sayin’. Thanks
