I literally just pulled my first quilt off my Juki 2200 QVP longarm. It’s now official, I feel like I can do this!
I realised this week that I have three finished quilts, and two finished quilt tops that I haven’t blogged about. As that illustrates I’m spending more time sewing, and not enough time telling you about it. Will remedy.
What about all that craziness with the Modern Quilt Guild and derivatives, huh?! They need to hire better PR representation. I’m just choosing not to get involved, as it’s not really a discussion I’m that interested in, and like, I have to go file my nails and shit.
Just so we’re clear, here’s the disclaimer I have on my pattern about copying: “… Do not give away or reprint this pattern without permission, because karma is a bitch. Make as many things as you like, but if you’re setting up a sweat shop to mass produce items using the Don’t Be a Dick pattern, we need to have a bigger discussion …” Amy of 13 Spools couldn’t have said it any better.
I’ve officially decided not to participate in the #100Days100Blocks challenge. I’m still going to be a cheerleader, and make a few of my fave blocks along the way. As soon as I stopped pressuring myself, the whole concept became fun again. I’ve been making a solid effort to rediscover the joy in all of this empire building.
I’ve also been taking strides to slim my stash! WHAT. How does that even happen for someone who hosts Sunday Stash each week? It means you have to use a lot of fabric quickly, and/or find people who need it more than you. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing, and it feels uplifting!
Mr. Sparkles and I had a new King Living, grey leather ottoman delivered today. Furniture day is almost as good as fabric day! (And holy hotdogs, y’all, the delivery man. Let’s just say he put the Russian gymnastics team to shame!)
Not so fun: I had a Skype call with an international tax agent about filing my U.S. taxes from Australia. Riveting.
I gifted my Tidal Pool and You Learn quilts to two amazing women in Oklahoma. They received them this week, letting me know through a photo on Instagram. It was so beautiful to see my quilts around the world, already being cuddled, and loved. Worth every stitch.
Yes I enjoyed Amy’s post too … but also not getting involved … probably would have to have a pattern empire to be involved, and I don’t, so … I’m giving the Tula Pink sampler a red hot go … it’s highly likely that I’ll fall off the bolting stallion, but skinned knees and elbows is my thing.
I so enjoy this kind of post! It matches the way I think most days, run, jump and play..do over! The MQG thing reminds me of why I am not much of a joiner. Thanks for a fun read with my morning coffee.
Bummed you’re not doing the 100 blocks, but totally understand — you’re stronger than me for recognizing it’s probably not the best thing for you at this point. Why is it so hard to *not* sew along!
So does this copyright business mean you have to reveal who inspired your image for DBAD pattern? Are body parts protected? This could get a little dicey:)
I totally agree with you on the 100 blocks… I just finished mine this week…but it started becoming a chore rather than fun…and isn’t fun what quilting should all be about?
Looking forward to seeing your first longarmed quilt! I know it’s stunning!
