Palette Builder – Spring Break

So once upon a time, I used to be a photographer. I have a few university degrees that seemingly say I always will be. I guess that’s debatable. I don’t source my sole income from photography, so I find it difficult to say, “Hi, I am a photographer.” Although, it seems anyone with a camera these days doesn’t have a problem with it, so why should I? :::shade, thrown:::
I’ve discovered, even while on my quilting journey, that photography is still in my blood. Some of my favourite times with my quilts and fabric is the photographic exploration of all that they offer. Hence why I love Fiona’s Sunday Stash, because it gives me the perfect reason to break out my camera. Well now, I’ve discovered another way that the photographic process can influence my quilt making.
Enter, Anne from Play Crafts and her Palette Builder tool. It allows you to upload a photo and then it pulls out the prominent colours, also allowing you to specify some criteria such as number of colours and contrast. Brilliant! It’s the mind the gap between your favourite photo and fabrics that reflect its awesomeness. To encourage everyone to try it out, The Intrepid Thread is hosting a little palette builder contest where you can win a fat quarter bundle inspired by the palette you create. Um, hello, photography, fabric, and prizes, sign me up for that!
I wanted to use one of my own photographs (not required, but well, no comment…) and found this lovely shot that has me feeling like it’s time to party. Actually, if I remember correctly–a bit hazy–it was at one of the notorious Molli Sparkles parties. (They have to be seen to be believed, but think BIG). The accompanying palette gives me shades of Spring Break, which is totally right now. So, I recommend you go try it out, as it might be just what you need to find inspiration for your next project. Work!

Fabulous! I read the Thread's post and just got all technologically confused, so didn't give it a crack! Perhaps I shall re-think?

Perfect party palette, so will the prospective quilt be for the morning after?

Love this palette and the pic, my favourite of the comp so far!

  4. Fab photo and colours! It's a bummer that we can't use adobe flash player on the ipad! It means I have to go to my BIG laptop. Must invest in an Apple Mac perhaps? Methinks yes!
